Ink blue is a deep, slightly grey blue, the colour of fountain-pen ink once it has dried on paper. It is softer than navy and less saturated than cobalt, which makes it easy to live with on walls and joinery. It works as a quiet background for brass, walnut and cream, and it gives pink and terracotta a cool edge to sit against. In low evening light it can read almost black, so test it on the wall you plan to paint before committing to a whole room.
