Midnight navy

Midnight navy is a blue so deep it stands in for black, with just enough colour to stay warm in daylight. It suits tailoring, painted cabinetry and the inside of bookcases, anywhere black would feel too hard. Rust, brass and cream all look brighter beside it, and a single pale surface keeps a navy room from closing in. In fabric it reads as quiet and expensive. Under warm bulbs the blue comes forward; in cool light it sinks towards charcoal, so keep the lighting warm.
