Chocolate is a brown deep enough to stand in for black in a warm scheme. It has more warmth than charcoal and more depth than walnut, so it suits rooms where black would feel too hard. Use it on a ceiling, a lower wall or a run of cabinetry, and let paler colours do the lifting above. It sits well with cream, camel and oxblood, and it makes brass and amber glass look brighter by contrast. Low, warm lighting keeps it soft. A single cool bulb can make it look flat.
