Bouclé is a fabric before it is a colour. The word comes from the French for curled, after the looped yarn, and the shade most people picture is its natural cream with a little beige in it. As a colour it is softer and warmer than bone, and it looks best alongside texture: wool, linen, plaster and raw wood. In a dark room a bouclé sofa or chair is often the lightest object, which gives the eye a place to rest. It pairs with walnut, oxblood, rust and brass.
