Bone

Bone is the soft white of old china and unbleached linen, with a trace of yellow and grey. It is gentler than brilliant white and less creamy than ivory, so it works in both warm and cool schemes. Use it as the main wall colour when the furniture and art are doing the talking, or as the pale surface that keeps a dark room from closing in. It sits well beside walnut, deep pine and marigold. On a north-facing wall it can read grey, so test a sample in the room first.
